Spinner, Tovey, Golding and Childs had been together for some time and until recently they had been playing in The Soundtracks and after leaving this group they were joined by Smith. He had joined the group temporarily for six weeks until they had auditioned a drummer, but he enjoyed playing with them so much that he ended up staying. The other members of The Kingpins very much admired his playing. Smith's own favourite drummer was American Joe Morello (1928 - 2011) who played with The Dave Brubeck Quartet, that included American pianist Dave Brubeck (1920 - 2012).
Brian Tovey of Clifton Gardens, Canterbury was the group's manager.
The Kingpins practiced at the home of lead guitarist Roger Tovey at 15 Clifton Gardens, Canterbury.

In The Kentish Observer and Canterbury Times of Tuesday, April 21, 1965 there was an article on The Kingpins. The article talked about the fact the present line-up had only been playing for two months and that they knew about 50 or 60 different numbers including some instrumentals written by Tovey. It also said that the boys had previous experience in other groups and really enjoyed playing together. It also talked about the fact that the group received one of the warmest welcome, was at the Dover Teen Beat Dances. In fact, they were so popular that they were booked to appear at every Teen Beat Dances until New Year's Eve (Friday, December 31, 1965). The boys also talked about the fact they did not want to turn professional as they thought there was no point as they all gad secure jobs. Their jobs ranged from an electrician, solicitors' clerk, mechanic and dental technician.
The group's manager was Brian Tovey of Clifton Gardens, Canterbury.
In March 1965 Golding a civil servant left as on Sunday, March 14, 1965 he sailed off to Australia on the Italian liner the 'Fair Sky,' with his parents and his 11-year-old sister (b. 1954). They went to live with for a little while with his uncle's family outside Adelaide City, South Australia, Australia. He took his guitar and amp with him hoping to start a band there.
Still Golding played with the band until he left for Australia. With his help The Kingpins tried to find a replacement. So, if anyone was interested, they were to contact their manager Mr. B. Tovey at Canterbury 66406.
Golding was replaced by rhythm guitarist Chris Moyse (b. Christopher Moyse, 1948).
