The Rock-a-Beats had been going since ca. 1959 when they were a Skiffle group called The Black Cats. They were also the most popular band in Whistable.
There was an article on The Rock-a-Beats in The Kentish Observer and Canterbury Times of Thursday, February 18, 1964.
All the members of the band were between 18 and 20.
