Semi-professional band The Soundtracks had a line-up of Jeffrey Spinner on lead vocals (b. 1949), Roger Tovey on lead guitar (b. 1949), Alan Golding on rhythm guitar (b. 1947), Peter Childs on bass (b. 1948) and a guy on drums.
When the guys left The Soundtracks, they added drummer Stuart Smith (b. 1947) and formed the semi-professional band The Kingpins formed in February 1965 in Canterbury.
Smith had joined the group temporarily for six weeks until they had auditioned a drummer, but he enjoyed playing with them so much that he ended up staying.
