Legge had started out as a drummer in 1960 at 13 at The Chartham Secondary Modern School, Shalmsford Street, Chartham, Canterbury, Kent. He had started out with Delo in local band, The Swinging Secrets. The Swinging Secrets split in 1963 and Delo and Legge joined The Others formed in 1964 in Canterbury.
