The Strand Palais was situated off The Strand in Walmer, near the historical corner previously occupied by the Rising Sun public house.
Before and during its time as a dance hall, the building saw use as a brief roller-skating rink and home to local dancing academies.
As traditional ballroom dancing lost popularity with the rise of rock and roll, the Palais transitioned into a popular venue for live bands, touring pop acts, and performances by musicians from the Royal Marines.
Notable early rock and roll/beat acts—such as The Paramounts (later Procol Harem) , Joe Brown, and Screaming Lord Sutch—played there
The building was later redeveloped or demolished over the years, with parts of the site adapted for commercial use (such as Autobase in later decades).
